The mathematics departments of Stamford and Westhill High Schools are organized to develop and implement a curriculum that consists of those courses, units of instruction, and activities designed to meet the common and specialized needs of high school students. Included in this curriculum are concepts and processes upon which technical and scientific development depends.
This curriculum is designed to meet the present and future needs of the students in educational and vocational areas. Graphing calculators are used extensively throughout the math coursework. The Integrated College Preparatory Math sequence includes four courses that maintain the traditional stands of algebra, functions, geometry, and trigonometry while including a balance of topics from data analysis and statistics, probability and discrete mathematics. The emphasis is on real-world applications and includes the study of concepts and skills in each unit. This program reflects a reform curricula recommended by the National Science Foundation and the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics.
