The school counselor at Stamford High School plays an integral part in the student’s educational, social, and emotional development.  Counselors offer a myriad of services that are designed to aid the student in a decision-making process that centers around academic planning, careers, college selection, and personal issues.  In addition, the Guidance Department sponsors a number of workshops in the following areas:  the college selection process, college financial aid, careers, and national standardized local public high schools, to acquaint students with a variety of colleges and programs.
Entering ninth grade students are assigned a homeroom and a guidance counselor through their social studies classes.  This arrangement provides a common meeting period for guidance services.  Students entering Stamford High School after ninth grade are randomly assigned a homeroom and a counselor.  Parents are always encouraged to make an appointment with their student’s counselor and discuss their concerns.
