Art Club

Advisor(s): Art Department, Mr. Cusano

Club Description:
This club provides artistic opportunities that enrich our school, community, and individuals. Club activities include: painting school murals, community outreach, museum trips, guest artists, and various studio art workshop experiences. All students are welcome regardless of artistic ability.


Biology Club

Advisor(s): Mr. Halmeck

Club Description:
This club gives students the opportunity to enjoy practical applications of biological science through independent research, lectures, and field trip experiences. The club meets monthly in Room 513 by announcement.


Chemistry Club

Advisor(s): Ms. Martel

Club Description:
The chemistry club will enable students to immerse themselves in the field of chemistry through a variety of means, including but not limited to: applying fundamental concepts in experiments, exploring career opportunities in chemistry through field trips and guest speakers, inventing application of chemistry to every day life, helping to share and understanding of chemistry.


Drama Club

Advisor(s): Mr. Michael Limone, Mrs. Nereau, Mrs. Cahill

Club Description:
The Strawberry Hill Players produce two major productions a year: a fall drama and a spring musical; one student generated production, and host the annual Poetry Slam. Members are actively involved in the entire production process, from student directing to publicity. The different areas in which students can participate are: acting, singing, dancing, directing, stage management, business management, costumes, make-up, publicity and ticket sales. The club is open to all SHS students. Class credit is given to students enrolled in Dramatic Arts and Acting Workshop.


History Club

Advisor(s): Mr. MacLehose

Club Description:
Students meet to discuss historical issues, research local history, examine local issues, and plan history- based forums. This club meets Room 120 every Thursday after school.


History Day

Advisor(s): Ms. Drugge, Mr. Arcano

Club Description:
The History Day Competition is a contest open to all students interested in independent research. Entries may be written papers, projects, media or dramatic presentations. Entries may be individual or group projects(up to five members). This group meets as needed in Room 219.


Latin Club

Advisor(s): Mrs. Grady

Club Description:
The Latin Club provides current and former students of Latin with opportunities to explore the culture of the ancient Romans. Each year students participate in a field trip in May to Connecticut State Latin Day.


Math Team

Advisor(s): Mr. Welch, Ms. Amon

Club Description:
The Math Team takes competitive math exams at the county, state, and national level. It is an award winning team. Scores do not become a part of students' records unless they request them to be. The Math Club meets the first Tuesday of the month, in room 607. All new and old members are welcome. The tests consist of six questions.


Mediation

Advisor(s): Ms. DeLo

Club Description:
Mediation is a peer service group of trained volunteer mediators who are on call daily to mediate appropriate referred conflicts in the school. The Student Advisory Committee discusses mediation procedures, unique cases, presents to classes, and has a demo team available for community presentations. Mediators are on duty all day everyday during their free periods. The students select new students to be trained each year, as well as assist in training younger students.


National Art Honors Society

Advisor(s): Ms. Spinner

Club Description:
NAHS is an organization of artists who wish to provide art experiences is the community. Students are selected on academic merit, moral character, and service to community. Annual activities include the Mini-Masterpiece Art Contest and financial contribution to the Melissa Todd Memorial Scholarship Fund. Meetings are held in the Art Department by announcement.


National Honors Society

Advisor(s): Mr. Grillo, Ms. Clark

Club Description:
The National Honor Society recognizes those students who demonstrate superior scholarship, leadership, service, and character. Peer tutoring is a major activity of this group. A GPA of 3.4 or higher, demonstrated superior character, leadership, and service and endorsement by the selection committee are required for membership. (Juniors and Seniors only)


Physics Club

Advisor(s): Mr. DelGuidice, Mrs. Lucia

Club Description:
The Physics club provides students the opportunity to learn the applications of physics principles by developing review activities, participating in field trips, and sponsoring guest lectures and visit to local industries. Students participate in the Yale Physics Olympiad and other contests, as well as promote the science of physics to other students in the middle and elementary schools. The physics club meets Thursday after school in room 508.


Student Council

Advisor(s): Mr. Carpenter

Club Description:
The Student Council is an activity where participants meet with faculty, administration, and their advisor to recognize and correct school problems by formulating new procedure or improving existing regulations. Membership is open to all interested students. Meetings are held on a rotating period basis and after school. All members are expected to attend. There are five officers on the student council. Elections are usually held in May. All members run for any office except president. Presidential candidates must be in their junior year.


Tech Crew

Advisor(s): Mr. Limone

Club Description:
This activity is an integral part of the Strawberry Hill Players. Responsibilities include: set design and building, lighting, sound, developing special effects where needed, handling of properties, care and maintenance of the stage and its environs, plus a myriad of other activities. Stage crew is open to all students interested in participating in theater activities and developing good friends.


Tri-M Music Honor Society

Advisor(s): Mrs. Sinaguglia

Club Description:
Tri-M stands for Modern, Music, Masters which is a program sponsored by the Music Educators National Conference (MENC), an international music honor society that motivates and recognizes musical achievement. Students are invited to join based on their musical achievement, commitment, dedication, and attitude. Membership is an honor conferred on a student by the music faculty and current membership for their accomplishments. Activities include planning recitals, fundraising, publicity for concerts, etc. Annual membership fee is required.


World Language Club

Advisor(s): Mr. Gladstone

Club Description:
The World Language Club is for students, who are interested in Spanish, French and Italian and in different Cultures. Through community services, tutoring and cultural activities (fiestas, field trips) the club celebrates and promotes these three cultures.


Writing Club

Advisor(s): Mrs. Drugge

Club Description:
Students in all grades enjoy a weekly meeting to share their writing and keep track of publishing possibilities. Students meet in Room 219 Monday afternoons.
