Building with Books

Club Description:
Building With Books is a Stamford-based non-profit organization that works in conjunction with several school-based clubs across the country. Building With Books' mission is to enhance education for American youth while providing children of developing countries the opportunity to become self-reliant through education. Club members gain a greater sense of global awareness and participate regularly in service projects to better our community and foster an environment of social awareness. This club meets in room 101 on Tuesdays after school.

Club Description:
Distributive Educational Clubs of America (D.E.C.A.) is a national club where students who participate learn the fundamentals of marketing and business. DECA focused on fundraising for the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA). Members attend field trips to companies and corporations such as Cadbury Schweppes and Thompson Corporation. Members have had job shadowing days with different employees to experience a day of work. We are also involved with Junior Achievement and the Stamford Rotary Club. The club meets monthly in Room 251.

F.B.L.A.

Club Description:
The Future Business Leaders of America is a national association which prepares its student members for careers in today's fast-changing business world. FBLA has chapters located in hundreds of high schools all across America. Stamford High FBLA owns and operates the single most successful fundraising operation at SHS. Rob's Place, the school store, operated by members of the organization, provides great snacks and beverages to hungry students and teachers. With the revenue generated by the 100% non-profit business venture, students are able to participate in both state and national business competitions, as well as donate to and become involved with many charitable organizations in the community while also being able to give back to the students of SHS. Meetings for FBLA are Monthly in Room 246.

Interact

Club Description:
Interact provides community service through their affiliation with the Rotary Club International, the sponsor of the Big Brother/Big Sister Program, Grand kids, Semi-Annual Holiday Food Drives; participant in a variety of other activities throughout the academic year, (i.e. Kid's Day, Environmentalist Day, Special Olympics). Time commitment varies greatly according to each student's degree of involvement. Open to all grade levels. The Interact Club meets in Room 250 every other Monday of the month.

Make a Difference Club

Club Description:
Project make a difference club will be participating with the Volunteer center of Southwestern Fairfield County. We will be offering a plethora of opportunities for SHS students to volunteer in the following areas: working with children, helping in social services, working at museums, working in arts, helping with ground maintenance, helping with special events. Project Make a Difference seeks to allow students to learn a skill, meet interesting people, gain new perspective and be a part of a team, all though the benefits of volunteering. Meetings will be held in room 220 on the third Monday of every Month.
