Message from FOSH

The 2007/2008 school year has begun and the excitement and energy is evident everywhere in the building. Once again FOSH (Friends of Stamford High), the parent support organization at Stamford High, is lucky enough to be part of the Stamford High team. You all are members of FOSH and very fortunate to part of this wonderful organization. Make a commitment to FOSH, no time is too little or too much to give. Get involved in a wide range of exciting activities. FOSH needs you.

This year FOSH is asking all parents interested in helping to join us at our meetings once a month. The meetings are filled with lots of important information to enhance your child’s experience at the school. Throughout this year FOSH will be actively seeking and recruiting parents to join the FOSH executive committee next year. There will be a whole range of openings. In addition a separate board of Stamford High’s After Prom Committee will also need new board members for next year. Let us know you have an interest, it is well worth your time and involvement. It is fun…we really mean it.

Come to monthly FOSH meetings, join a committee and see what it would be like to be part of a FOSH board or a committee co-chair. It will be something you will want to experience. Here is just a taste of the range of FOSH committee opportunities that you can be part of. Help out with: After Prom- an alcohol and drug free event for SHS seniors and their dates held after the prom; Fashion Show- a fun evening where juniors and seniors model prom and other attire; FOSH Scholarship Fund- selecting and providing college scholarships to seniors who have made a difference in our community; Dare to Dream- reviewing and providing financial support for special programs or equipment requested by SHS staff; Environment Day- a day devoted to beautifying the grounds of SHS; Calendar/Handbook- development of a wonderful resource for SHS families to include school calendar of important dates, activities, sporting events, policies, contact information; Student/Faculty Basketball- a fun filled evening at SHS as the basketball rivalry continues and so much more….

FOSH General Meetings are open to the entire SHS community. Each month, join the FOSH executive committee along with the new Acting Principal, Rodney Bass and hear all about what is happening at SHS. Your participation is encouraged and welcomed. The dates of the meetings are listed in your calendar and generally occur the first Monday of the month at 7:00PM except for the month of September. Your involvement is one important way to support your child and also will help Stamford High continue its outstanding reputation.

Although membership in FOSH is free, financial support is always needed to support the events and activities provided for the students and faculty at SHS. FOSH does not use numerous parent fundraising activities to support its programs, therefore donations are critical to the success of our activities to support the students and faculty.

Please consider making a donation to FOSH of $10, $25, $100 or whatever amount you can. Your contribution will make a real difference for Stamford High. Your membership/donation form was included with your school calendar. If you have not yet done so, please complete it ASAP with a donation in any amount and return to school. We will send you in return a token of thanks, a window SHS decal and will put you immediately on the FOSH e-mail alert system so you will be kept up to date with school activities, events and important up to date school related news.

You can also designate part of your contribution to the FOSH Scholarship Program. This program was created by FOSH to celebrate and reward students who demonstrate exceptional service to SHS. The scholarships are cash awards that are used toward post-secondary tuition or school fees. Funding for these scholarships is achieved through FOSH fundraising activities as well as specific parental donations made directly to the Scholarship Program. Please consider this wonderful program when making your donation to FOSH. The 2007 FOSH Scholarship recipients were:

Carla Green – North Carolina Central University
Amy Sierpina – University of Connecticut
Kailey Stockenbojer – University of Connecticut
Daniel Zuchelli – New York University

We look forward to seeing you all in September. The first FOSH meeting will be held Monday, September 24th at 7 PM in the media center. All are encouraged to attend. Our phone numbers are listed in your calendar if you wish to contact us.

Warmest Regards,
Cheryl Tiscia
