Volunteers

Wednesday, November 09, 2011 8:56:00 AM

The library now has several volunteers helping at our circulation desk on the 6th floor.  We have four parent volunteers, Tammy Jack (Tuesday and Thursday mornings), Kathy Kaptinski (Monday mornings), Michelle Dzibela (Wednesday afternoons), and Monica Jagtiani (Wednesday mornings). We also have a library science student, Gina DiMatteo, assisting on Friday afternoons. They are all doing a terrific job helping the library staff maintain the facility, checking in and out materials, shelving, creating bulletin boards, helping prepare books for cataloging, and much more.  The library staff is very appreciative of them giving their time to help us serve the SHS community.  If there are any other parents interested in volunteering in the library, they can contact Jean Isler at jisler@ci.stamford.ct.us anytime, or at 203-977-5615 during the school day.

We are now open after school

We are now open after school until 3:15 on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays.  Ms. George and students from the National Honor Society are here to help you with your research and homework.  There is also a math teacher here each day, Ms. Rixon on Mondays and Thursdays, and Mr. Odoom on Tuesdays, to help you with math.  Please feel free to take advantage of this time at the end of the school day for academic or recreational purposes.

Welcome

We want to welcome you to the Librarians' blog.  We plan to use this space to keep you informed about the services and resources we offer here in the media center, and update you regularly on our latest news.  We've had a busy opening, and are still involved in giving the freshmen their library orientation through their English classes. We look forward to another year in supporting the instruction at SHS and helping all students realize their academic potential.

One of the initiatives the library staff will be focusing on this year is helping teachers create their own webpages that will be linked to the Stamford High website.  We hope to develop better communication with students, parents, and the community by making specific information about our student requirements and expectations available on a class-by-class basis, including timely information about assignments and assessments.

We look forward to working with you this year.

Happy Reading!!

Mrs. Isler and Ms. George

Teacher Websites are in the Works

Tuesday, September 20, 2011 1:04:00 PM

The library staff has developed a template for teacher webpages to give them ideas about the types of information the may want to post on their pages.  Hopefully over the next few months we will be able to work with various departments and help them create their webpages and facilitate this process, enhancing communication with the SHS community and the community at large.
