Building a better future for Stamford Public Schools
Multipurpose Athletic Field (updated February 2024)
The City of Stamford with the Stamford Public Schools has received three million dollars in grant funding from the Department of Community Development (DECD) and the Department of Environmental and Energy Protection (DEEP) to improve the functionality of its athletic fields for the Stamford Highschool Community. The project includes the creation of a new synthetic turf baseball field and new synthetic multipurpose field across a synthetic baseball field.
The new campus will improve the students access to improved on site athletic activities and the work will improve subsurface drainage, accessible walkways, the baseball backstop, fencing. The project began construction in September of 2023 and construction is anticipated to be completed in time for the Spring 2024 athletic season.
Upper Soccer Field (updated 9/26/23)
The Mayor’s Office is aware of the concerns raised by the Athletic Director and parents regarding the condition of the upper soccer field. I know the school community received an update from Stamford Public Schools regarding steps that have been taken by the Stamford Public Schools Facilities team. The City is working with SPS to secure a third-party professional consultation to review the condition and composition of the Upper Soccer Field. The City’s goal is to act on professional recommendations that can be implemented for long - term solutions that will complement the continued maintenance by the SPS Facilities team.
Additionally, the City’s Parks and Recreation Department, in conjunction with Stamford Public Schools and Stamford High School Athletic Director, are working to identify city field space for any games needed in the meantime.
