Health and Physical Education
The Health Education Program provides students with a comprehensive study of various aspects of personal health and wellness. Units include decision-making process, emotional health, nutrition, fitness, sexual health, substance use and abuse, violence prevention, First Aid and CPR. Students are required to take one full year (two semesters) of Health courses, typically taken during 9th and 10th grades.
The Physical Education Program fosters an environment where all students are physically educated and participate in lifelong physical activity. Students have a variety of options to choose from to develop and enhance their personal fitness and wellness. All students are required to take one full year of Physical Education over the course of two semesters. During their sophomore year all students will participate in the state mandated Connecticut Physical Fitness Test within their Physical Education class.
PE Makeups
The Physical Education Department offers the opportunity for students to make up PE classes every Monday in the Cardio Room from 2:15pm until 2:45pm.

9th Grade Health
Students will improve their understanding of health concepts and the skills needed to take action in promoting a healthy lifestyle.
10th Grade Health
Students will obtain the necessary knowledge to assist them in making decisions and living a healthy lifestyle.
Human Behavior 1 & 2
Students will learn the skills and gain knowledge necessary to maintain healthy lifestyle choices.
Sheltered Health 9 & 10
Students will develop an understanding to stay safe and healthy, reduce health risks and practice high-level wellness.

Team Sports
Students will develop the skills and knowledge necessary to successfully play a variety of team sport activities.
Life Sports
Students will be able to execute the skills necessary to successfully play lifetime sports and demonstrate an understanding of the rules and overall game play for life-long fitness.
Fitness / Weight Training
Students will gain the knowledge and understanding of weightlifting techniques in order to develop their own training programs towards life-long fitness.
Cardio Fitness
Students will develop an understanding of the cardio equipment and how it can be used to promote life-long cardio respiratory fitness.
Dance Forms (SHS)
Students will be exposed to and develop an understanding to various forms of dance, music and culture, while acquiring skills necessary to move efficiently and choreograph collaboratively.
Physical Fitness Testing
All students in Physical Education classes will participate in the CT State Physical Fitness testing and develop an understanding of the value of each component of fitness.
